Prayer Ministry - 5 Pillars of Prayer

Five Pillars of Prayer
"Lord, teach us to pray..." Luke 11:1

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, "Lord, teach us to pray..." (Luke 11:1)

Jesus answered by giving us a model to develop a daily discipline of prayer that can open the door to a deeper relationship with Him and a life of power through answered prayer.  (The Lord’s Prayer, Luke 11:1-11, Matthew 1-14; 6:9)

Need Prayer?

 1. Praise
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be (be holy) Your name” Matthew 6:9

Praise His Name
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving & His courts with praise; give thanks to Him & praise His name.” (Ps 100:4)

Honor His Name
“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Phil 2:10-11)

Call On His Name
“Call on the Lord in my distress, and he answers me.”  (Ps 120:1)

2. Purpose
“Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:10

Desire For God’s Kingdom Purpose
“Yet not my will, but yours be done." (Luke 22:42; Hebrews 10:9)

His Kingdom Purpose
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)

Power to Fulfill His Kingdom Purpose
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."  (Acts 1:8)  For; Family (1 Tim. 5:8), Leaders (1 Tim. 2:1,2),  Church (Eph. 5:26), Occupation (1 Thess. 4:11), Community (Prov. 11:11)

3. Provision
“Give us today our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11

Faithful Stewardship of Gifts, Time and Resources
"...You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!” (Matthew 25:23)

Prosperity
“Walk in his ways and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and requirements, as written in the Law of Moses, so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever you go.” (1 Kings 2:3)

Giving
“But just as you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us — see that you also excel in this grace of giving.” (2 Corinthians 8:7)

Benevolence
“To share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter — when you see the naked, to clothe him, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood.” (Isaiah 58:7)

4. People
“Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Matthew 6:12

Repent of Your Sins
“But your iniquities have separated you from your God.” (Isaiah 59:2)

Receive God’s Grace
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Respond by forgiving
“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." (Mark 11:25)

Serve People with Grace
“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)

Love Your Brothers, Neighbors, Enemies
"... But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:43-45)

Share Your Faith
“I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” (Philemon 6)

5. Protection
“And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:13

Be Strong
“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against authorities, against powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” (Eph 6:10-13)

Be Alert
“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith,” (1 Peter 5:8-9)

Be Connected
“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” Hebrews 10:25

Be in Unity
“Protect them by the power of your name — the name you gave me — so that they may be one as we are one.”  (John 17:11)

Be Discerning
“Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”  (1 John 4:1)

Tips to growing in your daily prayer life:

1. Develop a habit of prayer

2. Find a quiet relaxing place

3. A consistent time, and a model to follow.

4. Bring your Bible and read scriptures as you pray—worship music is an effective way to enter into a peaceful place with the Lord as well.

5. Enter into His presence with confidence knowing when we draw near to God, He will in turn draw near to us.
